i have been in love many times but i don't consider that a good reason to get married. I waited until I fell in love with a friend.

In God We Trust

Many of you might remember when this song came out. You might have been a teenager and were able to identify with the lyrics, feeling as though you were being “put down” by the older generation or as if they didn’t understand you and accept you. On the other hand, you may have been a parent of a teenager at this point in time and didn’t understand why your children felt the need to rebel and follow a different path. The truth is, this has been going on since the beginning of time. While this particular song was released in 1965, most of the ideas still hold truth today.
The lyrics can be directly related to the church. Often times the youth do not necessarily feel comfortable in the church due to the older generation. Is my skirt too short? Should I not be wearing jeans? Did I just say something inappropriate to one of the older congregation members? We do not feel like we should change our appearance or personality because we are entering a different situation, yet we always fear that we are being judged, because we are much different from the older generation.
My generation, one that is often regarded to be spoiled and lazy, is a generation of doers. We do not always benefit from an environment that requires passive learning, such as listening to a sermon. We benefit from using the talents and gifts that God has bestowed upon us in order to learn more about Him and to better serve Him. Today is a wonderful example of this. From public speaking to performing music, we have a very gifted congregation, and what an excellent way to utilize these talents.
Our church has been wonderful about allowing our youth to actively serve God. Dozens of people in our church have served on a mission trip in their youth. Their service has included building fences, painting houses, playing with underprivileged children, spending time with mentally challenged adults, and having bible studies with the homeless. The service to God is undeniably obvious, but there has been much learning as well. Through being active, I know that I have been able to develop my relationship with God tremendously, and I think it is a safe bet to say that others have also. While I wouldn’t deny that my generation can be spoiled and lazy, I believe that it is compassionate and thirsty for knowledge too.
We have been raised in this church, and many of you have been a part of the journey that we are now on. Please be patient with us while we try to find our own way in the church, even if it is different from previous generations. I’m not trying to cause a big sensation, I’m just talking about my generation...........Jordan Messner

Hi Lloyd,

Hi Lloyd,
It's Lindsay Hayes, I just wanted to send you my youth sunday message I read in church on 6/7/09. Thanks for posting it! Be cheery :)
Lindsay http://www.rpcusa.org/

THE SCRIPTURE PASSGE WAS FROM ISAIAH 6:1-8

The scripture passage that was just read is directed mainly towards the youth in our church. I believe young members of our church sometimes shy away from involvement because they feel their input would not be significant. Others may feel they don’t have the authority or knowledge to suggest improvements for the church. But Isaiah clearly states that God is calling on a “young man” to do his will. A young man/ a teen, if he/she chooses to listen, may understand and carry out the Will of God. Our lives are so full of distractions that it is difficult to listen for God’s calling when we are so preoccupied with worldly matters. Your teen years are a time of uncertainty and young adults are trying to find out who they are, what they believe in and what they stand for. In religion there is a lot of uncertainty; countless parables are left for us to interpret. Some teens are overwhelmed by the ambiguity of the Bible. But one thing is certain, we are all God’s children and He loves us. God is not going to turn his back on you from trying to understand his scripture and maybe at first glance concluding the wrong message. It is a process of devotion, continual interpretations and experiences that shape the way one looks at scripture. A teen may feel hesitant in questioning an adult’s biblical views but both people should appreciate the opportunity to explore different ways of faith. We need to be open and inquisitive about each other’s beliefs. The congregation can learn so much from teens and adults alike, by respectfully questioning and taking into consideration other members’ views on scripture. We are all disciples of God and everyone youth and elders need to listen for the word of God.

Sekf starting point

06/08/09
SELF Starting Point
Once upon a time, My teenage daughter swaggered up to me, She declared “I will run away and find myself !”
Not looking at her, I said “OK”.
She stopped away muttering “Boone loves me!”
Later, I saw my wife nuking. I said to her “ Stop smoking, It is bad for you health.” She glared at me in her eastern European way. Then she said “Who are you!”
I retreated to the bathroom. There I looked in the mirrow. Looking at myself I thought “ Who AM I!”
My search started here for sekf.
Hi this Friday must go for another procedure at Hospital,This may delay post for weekend. LLOYD

Sunflower Terrorist

Years ago, In a drunken binge i fell and hit my head.
Upon awakening I found myself in Mersey Hospital. After an 18 hour coma my left leg and arm paralized. When home I rehabilitated myself ny walking. At first a few blocks then a fews miles. Sunflower seeds were planted by me as a joke. I plamted them everywhere. So the Chicago neighbor of Bridgeport was littered with 5 foot sunflowers. I was a sunflower terrorist

"I am working with the enthusiasm of a man from Marseilles eating bouillabaisse, which shouldn't come as a surprise to you because I am busy painting huge sunflowers" - Vincent Van Gogh, Arles, letter to his brother Theo

Comments:
Hi Lloyd! Look like you're getting better and posted something really funny about your sunflower adventure. Sunflowers are the easiest flowers to grow. No doubt about it. Just throwing seeds around, they grow & riot. I am glad you not a violent terrorist. A sunflower brightens our day. Thanks for linking my post to your post. Have a wonderful week-end!
